A person who is meditating uses certain techniques, such as focusing attention, an open attitude toward distracting thoughts and emotions and a specific posture. One can meditate for different reasons like relaxation, mental calmness, and to cope with one or more diseases and conditions; psychological balance; and for overall wellness.

Purpose Of Meditation

Many people practice meditation for a number of health-related purposes.
Till today, it is not known completely, what changes occur in the body during meditation; whether they influence health or not; and, if it does, how.

Meditation refers to a group of techniques, most of which started in Eastern religious or spiritual traditions. These techniques have been accepted by many different cultures throughout the world for thousands of years. Many people take the help of meditation outside of its traditional religious, for their good health and wellness purposes.

Through meditation, a person learns to focus his attention, increase concentration and suspend the stream of thoughts that normally occupy the mind. This practice helps to attain greater physical relaxation, mental calmness, and psychological balance.

Meditation can change person’s relation between flow of emotions and thoughts in the mind.

Most types of meditation have four main elements in common:

A quiet And Calm Location

Many of them prefer a quiet and calm place with minimum distractions. This can be helpful for starters. People who have been practicing meditation for a longer period of time develop the ability to meditate in public places, like waiting rooms or buses.

A specific, Comfortable Posture

Meditation can be done while standing, sitting, walking, lying down, or in other positions. There is no perfect posture for meditation. One meditates according to his or her comfort.

A Focus Of Attention

Focusing attention is a part of meditation. For example, the meditator may focus on a mantra, an object, or the breath.

An Open Attitude

Open attitude means letting distractions come and go naturally without stopping to think about them or getting disturbed. If the thoughts wander then they should be brought back to focus.

Meditation For Health Purposes

Meditation can be also practiced for good health:
Through meditation the brain, the rest of the body, the mind, and behavior become interacted. Meditation can affect emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and behavioral factors.

There are also people use meditation for various health problems, like anxiety, pain, depression, NCCAM-3 and self-esteem problems, stress, insomnia, physical or emotional symptoms that may be related with chronic illnesses, such as: Cardiovascular (heart) disease, HIV/AIDS, Cancer.
Meditation is also used for overall wellness

People practice meditation for various reasons. Meditation helps to maintain relation between mind body and soul. Meditation is helps to control stress, anxiety. It helps to maintain psychological balance; to cope with one or more diseases and conditions; and for overall wellness.

Meditation- It’s Meaning

Meditation is a very old technique which started in Eastern religious and spiritual traditions. People of many other traditions have adopted it world wide. Today, many people use meditation outside of its traditional religious or cultural settings, for health and wellness purposes. Meditation teaches you to control your complete mind, body and soul. Practice of meditation result in a state of greater physical relaxation, mental calmness, and psychological balance.

Four Common Elements Of Meditation

Select A Quiet Location
If you are a beginner you should try to select a quiet place to meditate where you face very less distraction. People who have been practicing meditation for a longer period of time sometimes develop the ability to meditate in public places, like waiting rooms or buses.

Sit In A Comfortable Posture

While sitting for meditation you should sit in a comfortable posture. If you are a person who practices meditation from a very longtime you can always meditate while you are walking, sitting or doing something or traveling.

Be Focused

Try to be focused and do not let your mind divert. Focusing is a very important part of meditation. For example, the meditator may focus on a mantra (a specially chosen word or set of words), an object, or the breath.

Have An Open Attitude

When you meditate do not let your mind distract from the focus. If your thoughts start wandering drag them back to your point of focus. You may also attain a stage where you will learn to observe the rising and falling of thoughts and emotions as they spontaneously occur.

Meditation For Health

In this type of meditation one focuses on the interactions among the brain, mind, body, and behavior, with the intent to use the mind to affect physical functioning and promote health. Examples include meditation and yoga.

Through meditation you can have interaction among the brain, the rest of the body, the mind, and behavior.

Meditation can be used for various health problems, such as:

Depression
Stress
Mood and self-esteem problems
Insomnia
Cardiovascular (heart) disease
HIV/AIDS
Physical or emotional symptoms that may be associated with chronic illnesses and their treatment, such as:

Meditation is a valid body state like any other such as sleeping or arousing. It helps to enjoy the benefits of our body state like relaxation, energy and perspective on your life. Meditation is an ultimate brain workout which keeps you away from anxiety, pain, depression, emotional problems, insomnia, and stress.

Are You Thinking How To Start?

You will have to spend only 20 minutes from your daily routine to be away from all your physical and mental problems. Firstly, find a comfortable place to sit where no one can disturb you for at least 20 minutes. While sitting for meditation, your back should be as straight as possible.

Put An Alarm

Setting time will help you avoid unnecessary excuse to get up and “check the time” which is a common hurdle while meditating. Sense of timing is lost while meditating which leads to the feeling that you have gone past the time you set for meditation. This will often happen after you have been sitting for 1 or 2 minutes. A timer helps to assure you that you have not meditated too long. So set a timer and then forget about time.

Concentrate On Your Breathing

Breathing is an unique automatic bodily function. We take over 10 million breaths per year without noticing. Now, we have to control breathing voluntarily. Try to breath slowly which will help your body to relax. Concentrate on your breathing and notice everything about it. Everything the process of inhaling , exhaling and the very tiny pause between the two.
Just be aware of your breath totally.
This is your only task in meditation — be aware of your breath, without losing your concentration. If your thoughts wander, just come back to breathing.

Understand The Aim Of Meditation

The whole idea of meditation is not to stop your thoughts or thinking process but to not interact with them. Coming of many ideas and thoughts in mind while meditation is absolutely normal. The art of meditation lies in coming back to your breathing and not to run after the thoughts. Learn to give a neutral label to your thoughts. Say for example, if you are thinking about everything you have to do at work, label the thoughts ‘work’ and return to breathing.

Do Not Ever Judge Yourself About Meditation

Perfect meditation is impossible. Many days you will find that your entire meditation time was spend thinking about your office or your children or your kitchen etc. Your awareness will drift away and the time will disappear, that’s completely ok. When your ideas go with the flow try to come back and concentrate on your breathing. Try not to divert from your goal of meditation. Each time you distract just come back to your breath. Do not think that you cannot meditate.

Ignore Your Inner Voice

Your inner voice will definitely call you many times to stop you, while meditating. This voice will come up with “great ideas” that you have to do something very important than meditation. The voice will ask you to get up and tell that your meditation time is up.
Don’t listen to the voice. Remember, while you are mediating there is nothing more important for you to do. Just sit.
Try not to flow with the thoughts and just watch them. Observe your thoughts appear and connect to other thoughts. Just watch your thoughts and do not nourish them. At the end you will find many of them useless and meaningless. You will also begin to develop an awareness apart from your thoughts. Perhaps the greatest lesson of meditation is that you are not your thoughts.

Applying Meditation Into Your Life

Meditation teaches you many things. Every day you meditate you learn something from it. Try to apply things you have learned through meditation in your day to day life.

Thinking About The Right Time To Meditate!

Every time is perfect time for meditation. You can meditate whenever you want to. You can always meditate while standing in a queue, feeling lonely or when watering plants etc. etc., etc.

Meditation Is A Daily Practice

Meditation needs daily practice which should be continuous and constant. You should meditate daily without fail. Regular meditation will benefit not only your body and mind but also your soul.

This article will not only tell you the meaning of meditation but at the same time will teach you the true process of meditation. You may be a beginner or a refresher no matter.
You will learn meditation and you will develop meditation as a powerful tool to assist you to live your lives more simple way i.e. without complications. You can learn the complete process within four weeks. You must practice daily for at least 15 minutes. You should try to select a time and place when and where you can practice daily.

What Does Meditation Mean?

Before learning the process you must know the exact meaning of meditation.
The Oxford Dictionary defines meditation as 1) “Plan mentally, design.
2) Exercise the mind in contemplation (on or upon subject) ”

Wondering what does this really mean?

Meditation simply means focusing your attention on one thing at a time, in order to still the mind from its constant chatter. It helps your mind to increase concentration. You can easily meditate by concentrating on counting your breath, an object or a mantra.

Your mind never wants to concentrate on one thing. It always keep on wandering. you have to keep in mind that your mind should not wander, its your job to bring it back to its point of focus. The art of meditation lies in this ability to bring the mind back to the point of focus, as soon as it wavers

Know Benefits Of Meditation

Benefits of meditation can be seen only through daily practice. You will see that your concentration has increased tremendously and also you feel more relaxed if you practice regularly. You will find that your will-power has increased and your stress seems to diminish. Also you will always feel fresh as you will experience a better and sound sleep. And if you practice it regularly you will discover many other benefits.

Techniques Of Meditation

1) Counting your breath
This meditation follows the flow of the breath whilst counting from one to ten.
Sit straight comfortably. Firstly, close your eyes and concentrate on your breath. Give attention on your abdominal muscles while you breath. Notice your abdominal muscles expanding as you breathe in, and coming in as you breathe out. Now count your every breath. Inhaling and exhaling make a single breath so count it till ten. Continue up to ten and then begin at one again. Do not let your mind wander, if at all it does try to bring it back
2) Meditate with the help of mantra
Choose a word whichever you like say for example “om“, taking deep breaths. Now sit comfortably and chant your mantra silently to yourself. Say it again and again in your mind and do not let your mind wander here and their.

3) Meditating with the help of candle
This form of meditation involves holding your gaze on the candle flame. Sit comfortably and place a candle one or two metres away from you. Keep looking at it continuously and remember to blink. Try to study the flame and look at it as if you have never seen the flame before. If your though wander try to bring them back and focus on the flame.

4) Mindfulness of breathing meditation

Here you will have to be aware and sense your breathing.
Feel the sensation of the breath as it flows in and out of your nostrils. This is not a breathing exercise, it’s an awareness exercise.
Do not let yourself notice other sensation and if at all it happens focus onto the breath.

In today’s fast life, one as lost peace of mind. This results into uneasiness, hypertension, mental imbalance, memory loss etc, which ultimately affects the body health and give rise to various health problems. Many a times we notice that our mind experience a great imbalance due to overload of work, we start forgetting recent thinks. Such mental imbalance is due to the extreme stress on the mind and when the body is dragged or forced to do boundless work.

We are the driver of our own mind, so it depends on us what thoughts to be stored and what thoughts to be avoided. So try to keep the mind away from negative thoughts, which may create an obstacle to achieve mental peace. Meditation is the key to success as it helps to increase the concentration of mind. And also build one’s mind to become sharper and to increases the grasping power.

Nowadays everyone is after wealth. In adopting the modern culture one is loosing their self-interpretation, and ultimately gets lost in the busy thoughts.

Therefore Meditation is the time’s need and everyone should practice it daily in spare time. It is best if we schedule time for it, but nevertheless it if practice it whenever we are free. Simple 15-30 minutes meditation will make your mind relaxed and help to work more without stress. This will lead to a happy, joyful, and healthy life.

To satisfy the good results one is advised to set good and peaceful atmosphere or just say a separate room with fresh environment, which can allow you to perform meditation peacefully. Use pleasant color paints to prepare a room for the purpose. Keep fresh flowers of your choice in the meditation room so that it will keep you fresh and gay the whole day.

The secret of success of great people was found to be the same only the path adopted were different but ultimately purpose achieved was alike.

Hence ultimately ‘Meditation leads to destination’.

How can you evaluate depression against that of ups and downs, is there any similarities? Affirmatively, Ups and downs are just that, where as depression has its ups and downs in a way that it turns your whole world upside down.

Depression is a psychological disorder and depending on how serious the symptoms medical attention may be necessary. Clinical depression can effect your health where deficiency of sleep is the main factor for chronic weakness settling in. Rounds of depression can have shocking affects on a patient trying to lead a normal life due to different mood swings which obstruct with their normal daily activities. Those feelings can be of sadness or loneliness and dysphoria. The lack of concentration is a major delay for a person suffering from depression particularly when decision making is involved.

Behavior of sufferers with depression can noticeably change causing major disaster to their daily way of thinking or doing. Common occurring mood swings can consist of irrepressible anger outbursts or anti social emotions. Social withdrawal can lead to loneliness where living like a recluse is the only option to deal with the depression. This is not the solution.

Sexual urges that were once placed high up on your daily list of pleasurable thoughts can be reduced to a level of near non existence therefore this can cause your partner to feel rejected (Not in all cases)
Medication is there for the taking, help is there for the taking, so why not take it. It may not cure but it certainly helps combat stress and anxiety.

Awareness of just how serious depression can be if it reaches a certain level has to be addressed immediately. Check out how this disorder has or is still destroying lives. With the right treatment and medication you can still hold onto life.

Due to the similarity of symptoms to ups and downs and depression has led to a lot of heartache. Unhappily to say life was not worth living for some whose ups and downs turned out to be depression which scaled to a height as high up like that of a mountain and then to come down to earth with a bump where they are to sleep forever.

It is our own dejected state of mind that hampers our efforts in finding the true cause and cure.

Look For Proper Medical Attention: Depression is a really serious matter and is not something that you should ever take it casually. There are many sophisticated and modernized techniques to cure depression from the grass root level. Surely, there is are options if you do not want to get stuck up with heavy dosage of medications, than you just have to prepare your self physically as well as mentally and do as your doctor prescribes.

Discuss With Someone: The most important thing is that a person who has previously went through depression can understand the problem of that person who is under going depression right now. This is important to know because it is particularly important to not expect to get compassion from others that do not understand your situation. Just search out for someone like a friend, colleague, pastor or even family member that you know has suffered depression in the past and be prepared to talk with them. Talk to them freely and try to understand how they managed to overcome their depression or are currently dealing with it can give great hope to you. It is also inspirational to have others that can realize your feelings and problems and not look at you judgmentally.

Proper Nutrition: One of the most important prospects of learning how to triumph over depression is to learn how to eat appropriately. If your body is not getting the proper nutrients in the proper balance then it can get stressed and this added stress on your body can straightly effect your depression. Hydration is also important, you want your body to have at least 8-10 glasses of water per day so it can function properly. Also take good vitamin and mineral supplement, fish oil supplement and something else recommended by renowned doctors is the supplement 5HTP. A good resource for understanding how to get your body the best nutrients is to visit a homeopathic practitioner. They can help you get on a healthy and nutritious diet that will get your body operating as it should.

Exercise: Last but not the least for helping you to learn how to defeat your depression is to get some exercise and work out.

When I referred to my friend that I perform Yoga, she asked me for clues on the best yoga tips for starters and how to apply them for maximum efficiency.

Without thinking much, I gave her this list:

1. Take a good Yoga Mat.
3. Build sufficient space in her room.
4. Acquire a metronome for accurate timing needs.

In addition being an important element in yoga guidelines for starters, they are moderately indispensable as they motivate and balance all the systems of the body including the endocrine, circulatory, reproductive and digestive system.

Addition Poses for Yoga guidelines for starters include the following:

1. Twisting Poses
2. The Bridge Pose
3. The Fish Pose
4. The corpse pose.
5. Backward Bending Poses
6. The Shoulderstand.
7. The Head to Knee Pose

Intentionally, I forgets to mentioning of the abdominal and breathing exercises, for now, till I felt she would be ready to learn and utilize them in her yoga routine.

I also strained that for using yoga tips for starters, she perhaps may only require to practice mainly the afore-mentioned sun salutations for time constraints and all. I mean 24 reps of them IS a workout friends.

As a result, if like my friend you are in need of aid with getting started with yoga, it is my hope that these tips will come in handy to aiding you in striking your favorite yoga pose.
