Finding Time for Great Hair
It seems as if women spend endless amounts of hours and money taking care of, treating, and managing their hair. From cut to color to products regimens, women are slaves to their hair. No matter how hard we try to control it, our hair never seems to be doing exactly what we want it to. It is and endless battle that never seems to get easier. But hair care does not need to be a struggle. With a few simple steps, women can experience healthy, beautiful hair everyday with minimal effort.
A great cut is the first step in creating beautiful hair. Hair trims are a necessity for any length. Split, dry ends are unsightly and make hair look unruly and unkempt. If long hair is your signature, try getting layers that a proportional to the length of your hair. Women with hair that reaches mid-back should have layers that begin at the shoulder. Women with shoulder length hair should choose layers that start at the chin. Bangs may seem like a great idea for a new look but be forewarned that bangs require daily styling to put them back into ace after a good night’s sleep. If long hair doesn’t seem worth the trouble, try a short style. Try to pick a style that is longer in the front and shorter toward the back. This will give the effect of having length without the maintenance.
After you have your great cut, maintenance becomes very important. Use a shampoo and conditioner in the shower but try to wash your hair every other day. Washing hair too much can make it dry and brittle and cause split ends to occur faster than normal. Make sure that you rinse conditioners thoroughly since they can weigh hair down and make it appear greasy.
After you wash you hair, towel dry it gently. Rubbing hair with a towel can cause it to break. Use a wide -tooth comb to work through knots from the bottom working your way up to the scalp. Use a thickening cream in damp, thin or fine hair to amp up the volume or an anti-frizz serum on thick or frizzy hair. Comb through and allow hair to begin to dry naturally. As hair begins to dry on its own, you can be doing other tasks. When hair is damp but not soaking you can begin styling. Trying to style soaking wet hair will take forever and the extended use of the hair dryer can damage hair.
If volume is what you seek, try flipping damp hair over and drying it upside down. This will give root the boost in volume that you are trying to achieve and cut down on time spent with the round brush. While hair is still flipped and almost dry at the roots, hit it with cool air from the dryer, setting the volume. Flip hair back so your head is right side up and continue drying with a round brush. This process will cut your styling time in half.
If hair has enough volume, part your hair and let hair dry naturally until only slightly damp. Use a round brush to finish smoothing the ends with a hair dryer. Once hair is dry and almost smooth from the dryer, use a hot straightening iron on the ends or any frizzy areas to smooth them down. If hair is really unruly, use one more coat of smoothing serum to the ends only. Using a serum near the roots will make hair look greasy.
